Neck ties and pony rides – September wrap-up

By October 10, 2019November 25th, 2019Monthly Recap

September brought the Conventures team inside and out for fundraisers, lectures, festivals, and road races. We chose to be in denial about the accumulating leaves on the ground, and put on some SPF for the sunny month-that-was. October is one of our busiest months of the year and we are hard at work planning for it, including one stretch with 11 events in 19 days… bring it on, October!

The Chiofaro Company Executive Event

Conventures began a busy month of September with The Chiofaro Company Executive Event, held at The Palm Boston. The event hosted writer and presidential biographer Jon Meacham for the latest installment of Don Chiofaro’s Executive Speaker Series. The event was held on September 11 and 125 of Boston’s civic leaders were in attendance.

Training UP for the Reebok Boston 10K for Women

On September 12, runners gathered at Reebok’s Seaport HQ for a 4-mile group training run in preparation for the 43rd running of the Reebok Boston 10K for Women! It’s our 43rd year of planning the all-women’s event and this is the second year we’ve added training runs into the mix. It’s great to see a community build! Our next and final training running is coming up on Saturday, October 12—click here to learn more and RSVP.

Light the Night Nashua and Medford

The Conventures team set up shop in the Granite State for Light the Night Nashua, one of a series of fundraising events hosted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), which funds life-saving research and treatment for blood cancers. On Saturday, September 14, thousands of walkers and supporters illuminated their lanterns and walked in unity to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by cancer. Also, the event raised $92,154 for LLS!

Two weeks later, on September 28, Conventures helped LLS host Light the Night Medford, where the commemoration continued. Among the thousands of lanterns and thousands of dollars raised was remembrance, commemoration, and hope. The Conventures team is so honored to help this great cause.

Seacoast Cancer Center 5K

Conventures once again teamed up with the Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for the sixth running of the Seacoast Cancer Center 5K, one of the region’s largest fundraising events, and one of the state’s largest races. The Conventures team, among other tasks, managed the registration, on-course logistics, start/finish line, and the lead vehicle program. With roughly 3,000 walkers and runners, the race raised more than $400,000 for the life-saving work of Wentworth-Douglass Hospital’s Seacoast Cancer Center.

Samaritans 5K

For the first time, Conventures teamed up with Samaritans for its 21st annual 5K Run/Walk for Suicide Prevention. The Conventures team, among other tasks, managed the event area build-out, the on-course operations, and volunteer operations. With about 2,000 individuals running and walking for suicide prevention, and a terrific turnout of volunteers and supporters, more than $600,000 was raised!

Meadow Walk Fall Fest

Conventures headed to Sudbury for Meadow Walk’s inaugural Fall Fest on September 28. With food, firetrucks, face painting, and pony rides, the event brought activation and energy to a new development in one of America’s oldest towns. The event allowed the community to meet the current and future business tenants of Meadow Walk with a fun array of music, food, and activities.
