On Saturday, May 8, 2010 over 1,000 people will unite at Carson Beach to participate in the Ninth Annual Boston Marine Corps Honor Run. In conjunction with Marine Week Boston, this years 5K is slated to be the Best Honor Run yet!

The Marine Corps Honor Run 5K will offer:

The distinctive spirit of hundreds of military and law enforcement officers is pervasive throughout the day. Groups will be running in formation, local honor guards will be onsite, as well as Marine Corps Cadets to help warm your muscles up. Race participants will include active duty officers and veterans from all branches of the U.S. Military and local law enforcement groups. But don’t be fooled this event is for EVERYONE. We welcome beginner runners, walkers and elite athletes alike. All you need is your sneakers and patriotism!

The Honor Run is held in cooperation with the Semper Fi Society and the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation. Formed in 1995 by former Marines and law enforcement personnel, the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation has awarded over 40 million dollars in scholarships and bonds to children of Marine Corps and law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The Honor Run aims to raise awareness for this great work and to recognize the sacrifices of our nation’s men and women in uniform.

When you receive your number, you will notice that a ChronoTrack Timing Tag has been pre-assigned and affixed to your bib number. This tag contains a microchip, which identifies you with your bib number through radio frequency identification technology. On race day, please follow these simple directions to place your ChronoTrack tag onto your sneaker:

  1. Remove the shoe tag and directions from your bib number.
  2. Separate the shoe tag from the direction by folding at the perforation and tearing
    apart.
  3. Crease the tag on the fold lines.
  4. Insert the shoe tag under your laces face down (so the number is facing down).
  5. Remove the adhesive tab (under the black area).
  6. Attach the adhesive tab to the non- adhesive tab.
  7. Press together firmly, forming a "D" shape.
  8. Position the tag number-side up—the rounded part of the "D" should be above the laces.

The tag works only when placed properly ON THE SHOE. Runners who leave the tag on their race number will not receive a finishing time.

The ChronoTrack tag is disposable, so
you don't have to worry about returning it to race management after the race. Simply detach it from your sneaker after you have exited the water and food area and dispose of it in an available trash bin.

Join the fun on race day! If you do not wish to run but still want to be involved, we encourage you to lend a hand. Assistance will be needed at water stations, number pick-up, the finisher area, and along the course. All volunteers will receive an official race T-shirt. To volunteer please call 1-888-767-RACE or email Valerie Morando at: vmorando@conventures.com.

This is the flattest and fastest course you will find in the Boston area. Perfect for beginner runners or for experienced runners looking for a new PR!

The start of the race will begin at Carson Beach/Mother's Rest Area.
Runners will run northbound on Day Boulevard making a hairpin turn just before the intersection of Day Boulevard and Farragut Street. The participants will return to Carson Beach traveling southbound on Day Boulevard. This event will effectively close Day Boulevard from 8:30 AM until 10:00 AM as well as traffic delays at Kosciusko Circle, Mount Vernon Street and Columbia Road.
