In 2001, the City of Detroit celebrated its 300th anniversary. The theme of the yearlong festivities was "300 years of opportunity, success and diversity". The celebration included community programs, a legacy project, the Detroit 300 Festival and the Ford Motor Company Parade of Ships. An important objective of the anniversary planners was to attract residents and visitors to the Detroit River waterfront area, once the site of destructive riots. Because of its expertise in maritime events, Conventures was brought in to coordinate the visit of 25 Tall Ships to the area.
Response:Conventures coordinated the planning among 85 US and Canadian public safety agencies, the American Sail Training Association and the event planning team, developed a comprehensive logistical plan and assisted in the stage management of the Tall Ships visit.
